Also, I have bad experience with US hosting providers, with them filtering out a list of countries (Cuba, Venezuela, etc, etc). How about you guys?
I might in the future decide to change my forum to a Java one, would this be a problem on the VPS? Am I free to install whatever I want/need?
in every php file were I use command line mysql_connect(“localhost”,“root”,“password”);
I get 500 error, how can I fix this Problem
thanks ;)

Kernel should be kept up to date to prevent security and bug issues, also standard kernel is not compatible with an up to date gentoo, since latest stable udev needs a kernel option which is disabled by default: result is no network at next reboot after upgrade.

AddHandler php5-script .php .html
By default, your Apache logs get stored in /etc/apache2/error.log. The trouble with this location is that only the root user (not your sudo user) can access them. You can make them more accessible by having them written out to your user’s folder.

bind-address 127.0.0.1 … to this… bind-address <my local IP Address>

sudo /etc/init.d/mysql restart
I get an error:

“We are currently experiencing a large number of resize requests. Resizes for this region are currently disabled but will be re-enabled shortly and throughout the day to help spread the load.”
I was simply resizing for a benchmark, so I just deleted it and created a new larger droplet.
Today, I created a new droplet, added some data and realised it needed to be a bit bigger. Tried resizing and got the same message. I’ve no idea if it’s still broken from yesterday, or broken again.
Is there a status feed somewhere that mentions which core features are currently out of order, and when they might be fixed?
(just found something on Twitter: “once resize is enabled which will be very soon” - the last mention I could find, 8 hours ago).

I’m working on a side project with a friend. We currently develop code on a domain/server package purchased on hostmonster. During development I stumbled upon Digital Ocean and decided to give it a try. I created an Ubuntu Server droplet, pulled down a build from git, and the rest was history. I had the test site up and running in minutes! I was sold from that point on – I want to use Digital Ocean for all my web hosting needs. Creating a test site for our project was easy. I’m not really sure, however, what the best approach would be to creating a droplet to serve as a development server.
What is the best way to use a droplet as a development server? Should we develop code on our local machines, push the code to git, and then pull the development code down from git onto the development droplet?

There is no difference between monthly and hourly billing. All droplets are billed hourly, up until a monthly cap. We have estimated that each month has about 720 hours (30 days). If you use your server for less than 720 during the month, you will be billed for each hour that you used it. If you use your server for more than 720 hours that month, you will be billed at the monthly cost, which is no greater than 720 hours.

Do you offer refunds?

No, we do not offer refunds. If there are extenuating circumstances, please open up a ticket with us.

I submitted a paypal payment. Why hasn’t my balance been updated?

Balances are not updated in real time. They are updated about once a day. Once you submit your paypal payment it gets processed and added to our system. You should see the updated balance the next day.

Am I charged when I enter a credit card?

No— when you enter a card, we only run an authorization charge. Your card is charged at the end of the billing cycle.

It’s halfway through the month, and I have received a notice that my balance is low. I pay through paypal. What is the issue?

Unlike credit card users, we need paypal users to prepay for their servers. Because of this, if you exhaust your balance before the end of the billing cycle, we will send you an email, asking you to pay for the continued use of your servers.
Learn more about pricing at: https://www.digitalocean.com/pricing
