Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of DigitalOcean’s Managed OpenSearch, a comprehensive solution designed for in-depth log analysis, simplifying troubleshooting, and optimizing application performance.

We know that managing logs can be a pain. You need to gather them, analyze them, and then use those insights to troubleshoot issues, improve security, and understand how your applications are being used. Plus, traditional log management solutions can be complex, costly, and time-consuming.

That’s where Managed OpenSearch comes in. It’s a powerful, user-friendly platform that makes it easy to gather and analyze your application logs. With Managed OpenSearch, you can:

  • Pinpoint and analyze log data with ease: Robust search functionality lets you quickly find the information you need to identify and resolve application issues. No more sifting through endless lines of text!

  • Customize log retention: Previously, you were limited to the most recent log entries in the DigitalOcean console. With Managed OpenSearch, you can retain your logs for anywhere from one to 10,000 days, giving you the data you need to drive meaningful insights.

  • Enhance security: Centralized log management makes it easier to monitor your systems for potential threats. You can quickly identify suspicious activity, spot anomalies, and take steps to mitigate risks.

  • Scale with your business: Managed OpenSearch is built to scale. You can easily add storage capacity (up to 44TB per cluster!) and up to 15 nodes to handle even the most demanding workloads.

  • Forward logs from multiple sources: Currently, Managed OpenSearch integrates with DigitalOcean Droplets and Managed Databases via our API. We’re also working on easy-to-use UI functionality for Managed Databases and simplified integration for App Platform and Kubernetes applications.

Gleap, an AI-forward platform used for customer feedback and bug reporting, leveraged Managed OpenSearch to not only consolidate their logs, but also gain real-time insights into their log data.

“We use DigitalOcean Managed OpenSearch for putting all our logs together in one place. This combined with the ability to automatically forward all DigitalOcean Managed database logs, is really brilliant and helps us a lot to identify issues or slow database queries. Our database is currently processing 20k operations/sec peak, so having great insights into logs is crucial for us.” said Lukas Böhler, CEO & Co-Founder at Gleap.

While our primary focus is making log analysis a breeze, Managed OpenSearch also offers a wider toolkit for data exploration and analysis:

  • Gain access to robust metrics and traces capabilities, allowing you to gain deeper insights into application performance and identify potential bottlenecks.

  • Get support for vector similarity search, ideal for tasks like product recommendations or anomaly detection.

  • Explore an extensive plugin library that lets you integrate machine learning models for tasks such log analysis or user behavior analysis, further unlocking the potential of your data.

Like all DigitalOcean Managed Databases, you can expect both predictable and affordable pricing with flat rates and monthly caps. With our pricing model, you can predict and control your expenses without hidden fees or unexpected costs. The platform’s scalability helps to ensure that you pay for the resources you use, allowing you to start small and expand as needed. Additionally, our managed database services reduce operational overhead by handling maintenance, updates, and security, freeing up your team to focus on core business activities. With pricing that starts at only $19/month, it’s a cost-effective solution for growing your digital business.

RepostExchange, a leading promotional platform for SoundCloud artists, saw benefits such as reduced latency, improved security, and reduced risk when using Managed OpenSearch.

“We were very impressed with how easily we were able to seamlessly migrate our workloads from Elasticsearch to DigitalOcean Managed OpenSearch. For our particular use case, this was a huge advantage as it allowed us to keep our OpenSearch-compatible workloads close to the majority of our services, massively reducing latency while also improving security across our platform. As with all Managed Database services DigitalOcean provides, it reduces our exposure and risk in running complex distributed services. Having been long-term consumers of Managed MySQL and Managed Database for Redis®*, we feel extremely confident in DigitalOcean’s ability to provide rock-solid managed services for complex data storage solutions.” said Mike Goodfellow, Co-founder & CTO at RepostExchange
