Archana Kamath, Senior Director of Compute and Network (IaaS), leads our compute and networking teams at DigitalOcean. Throughout her six-plus years with the company, she and her team have been a driving force behind key product milestones like expanding GPU offerings with AMD MI300X accelerators, accelerating backup and snapshot performance, and scaling compute offerings. Her technical leadership has been instrumental in shaping DigitalOcean’s cloud platform development.

What makes DigitalOcean the right place for you?

“I’ve been with DO for a little over six years, and there are a few things that make this the perfect place to work for me personally.

First is the concept of DO Simple that goes into building all of our products. Taking super complex scenarios and simplifying them for customers is such an interesting challenge, and one that I love solving for.

Second is the culture at DO. Our values drive velocity and iterative development in a collaborative environment, always focusing on solving customer pain points. That alignment with both innovation and empathy is what makes working here so meaningful for me.”

🎥 Have a look at Archana Kamath’s full conversation ⬇️

What excites you most about DO’s mission and technology?

“What excites me most is the unique opportunity we have to disrupt the space of cloud computing, and more recently, AI/ML. The DO Simple approach is customer-centric and focused on making cloud computing accessible for a wide range of use cases. The AI/ML space is still in its early days, but it’s already revolutionizing the tech industry. Introducing DO’s simple, customer-first philosophy to this disruptive space is something I’m really looking forward to.”

How would you describe the way innovation happens at DO?

“I’d describe our pace of innovation as iterative and customer feedback-based. We keep customers front and center in everything we build. We focus on milestones that drive customer value as early and quickly as possible, gather feedback, and then iterate toward the next milestone. This approach not only builds momentum but also ensures we deliver value faster.”

How does your team help power DO’s mission?

“I lead the compute product engineering teams at DO, which includes Droplets, the virtual machine that DO was essentially built on.

I also lead the networking products team, which powers core features like Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Load Balancers, Cloud Firewalls, IP addressing, and more. These foundational cloud computing constructs form the base for the majority of our products, and enable customers to build on a reliable, scalable foundation.”

What does customer-centricity mean at DO?

“For me, customer-centricity means solving the customer’s pain is the primary focus of everything we do, whether you’re in product management, engineering, backend systems, or infrastructure. Keeping customer use cases front and center is critical, and that’s what DO focuses on. It’s also at the heart of our mission.”

How has DO grown while staying true to its values?

“I’ve been with DO through all phases—from pre-IPO days to where we are now. Over the years, I’ve seen us grow both in the complexity of the use cases we solve and the scale at which we deliver. What hasn’t changed is our core desire: solving really complex technical challenges in a very simple way, so that anyone onboarding to our platform finds it effortless to use.”
