Question

Buying a Domain Name for my website

Hi, I think I am misunderstanding something. I need to set-up a server with a domain on the internet which currently I don’t own. I created my server with the name, and made the entry relating the IP to the domain name that I would like to use, but I’ve not found where to pay for the domain name. Is this included with the previous step? Do you also sell the domain name or should I buy it from someone else? I know for now is not taken. Thank you.

Hello,

Digital Ocean at the moment does no offer domain registration services, e.g DO is not a registrar. You will need to purchase a domain name from a third party provider and then use with your DO services.

Great idea, sounds like it’d be super useful!

It looks like someone has had the same idea before and has posted it on our Product Ideas board. The best thing to do would be to head over and add your vote to it, as well as adding any additional information in the comments for exactly what you’d like to see implemented!

Hope that helps! Regards, Alex

If digitalocean registered domains I would definitely move everything to digital ocean. It’s just so nice to have everything in one place.

Digital Ocean at the moment does no offer domain registration services. You will need to purchase one from a supplier like namecheap.com or Godaddy.com. Since you already setup the records on digital ocean dns section you’ll need to point the name server records to ns1.digitalocean.com, ns2.digitalocean.com and ns3.digitalocean.com for it to take effect.

Hope this helps. If you have further questions, you can post it here as a followup.

Cheers. :)
