I’ve been searching for the following structure but I couldnt find anything helpful.
I have 2 applications on my droplet. First is an express server. Second is a React app.
I want the express server to be accessed via www.DOMAIN.com. And I want the react app to be accessed via console.DOMAIN.com.
So far my express server is being accessed properly. I just dont know how to set up the subdomain. My droplet has this nginx config.
listen 80 default_server;
listen [::]:80 default_server;
# SSL configuration
#
# listen 443 ssl default_server;
# listen [::]:443 ssl default_server;
#
# Note: You should disable gzip for SSL traffic.
# See: https://bugs.debian.org/773332
#
# Read up on ssl_ciphers to ensure a secure configuration.
# See: https://bugs.debian.org/765782
#
# Self signed certs generated by the ssl-cert package
# Don't use them in a production server!
#
# include snippets/snakeoil.conf;
root /var/www/html;
# Add index.php to the list if you are using PHP
index index.html index.htm index.nginx-debian.html;
server_name DOMAIN.com www.domain.com;
location / {
# First attempt to serve request as file, then
# as directory, then fall back to displaying a 404.
proxy_pass http://localhost:8080; #whatever port your app runs on
proxy_http_version 1.1;
proxy_set_header Upgrade $http_upgrade;
proxy_set_header Connection 'upgrade';
proxy_set_header Host $host;
proxy_cache_bypass $http_upgrade;
}

Hi there,
What you could do is to create separate Nginx server blocks for each domain name.
That way, each domain will have its own configuration file, where you can specify different settings. You can follow the steps on how to do that here:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-nginx-server-blocks-virtual-hosts-on-ubuntu-16-04
Let me know how it goes!
Best,
Bobby
