Each has its own vibe and comes with some pros and cons. I’m not the best of experts however here are my thoughts:

Proprietary Software: This is the stuff you pay for. Think about big-name companies like Microsoft or Oracle. They design these EDRMS solutions that are usually polished, with plenty of customer support and a ton of features that are ready to go right out of the box. You get a package that’s built to handle complex records management needs, with regular updates and security patches that keep everything running smoothly.

Pros of Proprietary Software:

• Reliability: You’re paying for something that’s been tested, refined, and supported by professionals.
• Support: When things go wrong, you can call someone to help you fix it.
• Features: Often packed with advanced features tailored to specific industries, including archives and records management.

Cons of Proprietary Software:

• Cost: It can be pretty expensive, with licensing fees that add up, especially for larger organizations.
• Flexibility: You’re somewhat locked into what the software offers; if you need something custom, you might have to pay extra or it might not be possible at all.

Open-Source Software: On the flip side, open-source software is all about freedom. Now, which to choose is a different topic. You’ll need to weight in the pro’s and con’s and decide that for yourself. Additionally, it really depends on what are your needs, how big of a company you are and so on.
