Heya,
Each has its own vibe and comes with some pros and cons. I’m not the best of experts however here are my thoughts:
Proprietary Software: This is the stuff you pay for. Think about big-name companies like Microsoft or Oracle. They design these EDRMS solutions that are usually polished, with plenty of customer support and a ton of features that are ready to go right out of the box. You get a package that’s built to handle complex records management needs, with regular updates and security patches that keep everything running smoothly.
Pros of Proprietary Software:
Cons of Proprietary Software:
Open-Source Software: On the flip side, open-source software is all about freedom. You’ve got platforms like Alfresco or Archivematica that you can download, tweak, and modify to your heart’s content. The source code is available, so if you’ve got the know-how (or know someone who does), you can customize it to fit exactly what you need.
Pros of Open-Source Software:
Cons of Open-Source Software:
Now, which to choose is a different topic. You’ll need to weight in the pro’s and con’s and decide that for yourself. Additionally, it really depends on what are your needs, how big of a company you are and so on.
