Question

Web Hosting a Django web site in a droplet.

I wonder if anyone can help me with this…

I’ve got a website that I’ve built using Django & Python and Postgres.

I understand I can install Django, Python and Postgres and deploy the website into to a droplet, but what about the web hosting aspect of it? Do I need to install my own webserver in the droplet? Or does Digital Ocean do this part for me like one of those web hosting companies eg GoDaddy?

Hi there @closverges2004,

With your DigitalOcean Droplets, you will get root access and you will be able to install all of the packages and services that you need.

You can follow this step by step tutorial on how to set up Django with Postgres, Nginx, and Gunicorn on Ubuntu 20.04:

Let me know if you have any questions! Regards, Bobby

You need to get a host. I like Hover, but you can use anyone you like. After that you need to point the url to the host, and change the nameserver on the host side to digitalocean.

The process is a little geeky, but pretty straightforward once do it.
