“We don’t see our future without collaborating with DigitalOcean. We believe that we will keep using more and more resources as they become available. It’s been a great technological partnership.”
EMR-Bear is a digital electronic health record service designed for behavioral health organizations. They allow users to take advantage of electronic scheduling, documentation, and billing. Originally a bootstrapped startup, they’ve grown drastically in the last two years. High growth, while exciting, often brings new challenges for small businesses, and EMR-Bear needed an infrastructure solution that would support rapid growth while saving time and headaches for the team.
When EMR-Bear began ten years ago, they set up physical data centers. A small team maintaining a physical data center was problematic for several reasons. First, they realized that they were doing more engineering, maintenance, and setup of their infrastructure than they were doing software development. The physical infrastructure also made it hard for them to scale rapidly. Every time they needed additional resources they had to go shopping for servers. They found that specs were different every time they purchased new equipment and it was difficult to maintain a homogeneous data center. Finally, they found themselves in a situation where they needed to do maintenance and couldn’t help but shut down someone’s service. This setup wasn’t ideal and they needed a better solution.
They began searching for a cloud provider that could simplify their processes and help them grow. They found DigitalOcean to be just what they needed. DigitalOcean’s variety of simple solutions along with its affordable cost allowed the team to build a relationship with DigitalOcean that worked for them.
They began with Droplets before switching to DigitalOcean’s Managed Kubernetes. Now, they look for any way they can outsource their work to DigitalOcean and take advantage of the time back to focus on developing their own software. Not only does DigitalOcean save time and stress for the team, but the platform gives them the scalability they need in real-time. Instead of having to go buy new servers, they can scale with a couple of clicks, enabling the team to grow now and in the future.
