Question

Direct HTTP request to specific component in DO Apps platform

I recently started using the DO Apps platform. One app has two components: one component is a service and runs a django application (e.g. api.example.com) and another component is a static site (e.g. site.example.com).

How can I direct traffic for api.example.com to the django application and site.example.com to my static site?

Currently, I have both components on different apps but would like to put under one app.

Also, is there a way to increase bandwith for an app with only a static site running?

Domain-based routing is planned but unfortunately it is not available at this time. Two separate apps is the best approach until that’s added.

There is only one plan for static sites so it’s not possible to increase the bandwidth allowance. Additional outbound data transfer will be charged at $0.10 per GiB extra in a month.

You should use separate apps. One tip is to use your static content calling your API, in a Free Plan to Static Site. In most cases, will solve your problem. ;)
