Question

How do I download all the files in my droplet?

It has been a while since I have been in and I have a ton of files I just want to download locally, zip them up and archive them.

Heya, @waynehazle

You can download the files locally using rsync, scp or with any FTP client like FileZilla. We have several articles that cover this step, you can check them bellow:

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-copy-files-with-rsync-over-ssh

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/droplets/how-to/transfer-files/

Once you have all the files locally, you can zip them up into a single archive. Most operating systems have built-in tools for this. For example, on Windows, you can select the files, right-click, and choose “Send to” -> “Compressed (zipped) folder”. On Unix-based systems like Linux or macOS, you can use the zip command in the terminal. For instance:

zip -r archive_name.zip directory_to_zip

Replace archive_name.zip with the desired name of your zip file and directory_to_zip with the path to the directory containing your files.

Heya @waynehazle,

I would assume you mean your Application’s/Website’s files correct?

You can use FileZilla to do so. Check the following article on how to proceed with it:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/droplets/how-to/transfer-files/

You can transfer files from a local computer to a Droplet using a variety of different protocols and file transfer clients. We recommend using SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) with FileZilla because it is a free, open source, cross-platform tool with a user interface that supports newer users. If you’re comfortable using the command line, you can also use tools like rsync and OpenSSH’s sftp and scp. This tutorial walks you through the initial installation of FileZilla and how to transfer files to your Droplet using an SSH connection.
