When I upload a custom image in .raw format from my Windows PC to be used as an icon for my project I get an error,
We don't support the format of your image. Please try again with a supported image format (raw, qcow2, vdi, vhdx, or vmdk).
On Digital Ocean’s custom image page they write, Windows images are not supported.
I’m using CentOS 8. Unfortunately I’m not experienced with Linux and so I’m not sure what steps I need to take to get around this. How do I turn a .png or .raw file on my PC into a format that works on Linux?

Hi there @thr333one,
It sounds like you’ve got two rather different types of images confused here.
The first, which I don’t think you want based on “as an icon for my project”, is a virtual machine image. These are what are used to provide the operating system for a Droplet. This is what the custom image page that you linked to is referring to.
The other type of image is the type that you can look at, that you’d use for icons and other graphics. For example,
.png
is a file extension that may be used for these images. These are not at all the same as virtual machine images.Could you possibly clarify what you’re trying to achieve here?
Is it to change the icon in the control panel for you project?
If so, we don’t appear to support using custom images for project icons at this time. However, if you are on a project page, you should be able to click on the project icon and choose one from a set of icons that we provide:
Hope that helps. - Matt.
Hi Matt, thank you so much for clarifying that. You were right, I had 2 ideas confused.
The project icons you showed were exactly what I was talking about. I’d love to upload my own custom icons but if that’s not available I’ll stick to the available icons
Thanks!
