Question

How to Rescue AlmaLinux 8 on a Droplet Using the Recovery ISO

Hi all,

I need assistance recovering my DigitalOcean droplet running AlmaLinux 8. My team ran the following commands, which led to issues:

sudo dnf update -y sudo dnf upgrade -y sudo dnf autoremove -y sudo dnf clean all sudo dnf remove $(dnf repoquery --installonly --latest-limit=-2 -q) sudo journalctl --vacuum-time=2weeks sudo rm -rf /var/log/*.log sudo rm -rf /var/log/journal/

Now, the server can not boot from its own disk.

I’ve read about using the Recovery ISO to rescue the system but need detailed steps to proceed.

Could someone guide me on how to use the Recovery ISO to recover the server?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Peter

Heya, @darkopeter

If you need to recover data from your Droplet, you can use DigitalOcean’s recovery ISO with the Recovery Console to regain access and perform recovery operations, like getting access to an interactive shell, running fsck, or using chroot.

We have an article that covers the process on using the recovery ISO image which you can check here:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/droplets/how-to/recovery/recovery-iso/

Let us know if you have any specific question about the process and we can give more detailed information.
