How to set up SSL / HTTPS encryption between origin server (droplet) and cloudflare?

You can setup the domain name with CloudFlare and use the Full Strict SSL/TLS option. On your droplet you can use certbot to issue and install an SSL Certificate to complete the whole process. Have in mind that if there is DNS change this can take up few good hours in order to take effect.

You can configure an Let’s Encrypt SSL on your Droplet. That way you can get the full encruption option in Cloudflare.

You can just run the certbot command and it will guide you through the steps you need to take.

If you need to check which WebService you are using - Apache/Nginx you can always run the following command

netstat -tulpen | grep 80

What you could do here is to setup a free Let’s Encrypt SSL on your Droplet itself. Depending on the webserver that you have you can follow the steps here:

The certbot CLI will setup the SSL installation for you and also automate the renewal process.
