Question

I deleted my VPS 3 days ago and the IP has already been recycled.

Maybe about 2 or 3 days ago I deleted my VPS, I went to a subdomain that I was using for testing and got a strange Luxury Hosting page and had assumed I typed in my URL incorrectly.

To be lear, all of my DNS is managed through CloudFlare and my servers IP should be obfuscated but I’m sure thats not perfect.

Visiting my old IP 138.197.140.43 now brings up this hosting site. They are selling VPS hosting and oddly enough it’s not for Digital Ocean.

Wouldn’t Digital Ocean hold the IP for a while before recycling it?

Hi @adampatterson,

Once your Droplet is removed, the IP becomes available for usage once again. When someone orders a new Droplet, a script goes through the available IPs and picks one. In this case, it took less than 3 days, in other cases, it might take 1 month or so.

Hi there,

In addition to what KFSys mentioned already, if you would like to keep your IP and be able to use it for other Droplets, I could suggest taking a look at the Reserved IPs documentation here:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/networking/reserved-ips/

Best,

Bobby
